Two Heads Two Spikes The Pearl of Wisdom Saga Book 1 eBook Jason Paul Rice

While I'm a huge fan of the show Game Of Thrones and a voracious reader, I've never read any of the books.

I generally find those types of book difficult to stay with. The sheer number of characters and locations make it almost impossible to keep everyone and everything straight.

Full disclaimer: I won a paperback copy of this book in a giveaway but enjoyed it so much I bought a copy so I could leave a verified review.

I started the book without much hope of finishing it. It only took a few chapters to prove that line of thinking wrong.

Much like GoT the story takes place in an Arthurian time period where the lands are ruled by different kings. As I imagined that time period there is plenty of scheming and plotting, cheating and killing, all the things you love to read about. It's that age old story of those that have and those that don't, where those that have want more and those that don't suffer for aspirations of the former.

Fans of this genre will find a familiar territory with evil vs good with all the supporting cast for each side and except here the sides are not as clear as in other books of the genre. As in life none are all good or all evil and allegiance can change when the price is right.

The world is richly painted and the characters are written in a way that we learn about them throughout the story instead of a dump of information or as in some case just a vague description that leaves you confused and wanting more.

Two Heads Two Spikes The Pearl of Wisdom Saga Book 1 eBook Jason Paul Rice Reviews

Took nearly half the book to even get the characters in perspective.
Hate having to go to a separate Web site for maps.
Characters and story lines feel only loosely connected. I get the impression there are a number of good books all mashed together. Fewer characters and stronger leads with more fully developed personal would have held my interest more fully
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review.
I had trouble reading this book at the beginning, but I made myself keep reading and was happy I did. The characters and story started getting interesting and I couldn't put it down.
I loved it! I admit I needed to go back and look at the maps and the family histories a few times but I did get it together. Yes, it is written in the way that Games of Thrones was but it is also very different. I only had to suffer through a few well placed foul words; they were used appropriately and not as filler. I found the story to be quite believable, of course leaving out the fantasy & magic. I received this book through InstaFreebie, yet found it good enough to buy the second in the series.
So many names, details, events, descriptions...extremely difficult to keep everything straight. I finally quit trying to make sense of things, and just decided to read. Some things started to make sense & the character relationships easier to remember. Overall, it wasn't enough to make me put the book down for good. I liked the varying view points, & I am curious about how things will come together. I'm willing to give book two a chance.
Got a new favorite show? You been watchin’ HBO? If you have, you’re going to want to get your hands on this book. The Pearl of Wisdom saga is a dive into the realm of fantasy set in a real-world backdrop, finding us in a Donegal, Ireland that never was. For a new author Mr. Rice creates a story worthy of Game of Thrones, leading us into a world of intrigue and violence that will leave you checking behind doors and having your food tested for poison. Enjoy your trip traveler, but beware, for here there be Dragons.
I really liked this saga. I liked how it drug me in and kept me hooked. I had a few issues with the confusing subplots, kingdoms, and character names and had trouble keeping it all strait. Don't get me wrong, I liked all the different stories going on but their connected web left me dizzy at times and the similar names and related characters made this twice as difficult to keep strait. While I loved the ending to book one it was a definite cliffhanger. I was hooked deep enough to want to buy the next one in the series which is rare for me with cliffhangers. The world building in this book had the right balance of darkness, goodness, struggles, romance, adventure, suspense, battles, and fantasy elements. With a little more polish this author may be one to see amazing things from in the future.
“Two Heads, Two Spikes” is a rare treat, with female characters as strong as the male, something you don’t often see from a male author. This well written fantasy tale kept me up late more than a few nights.

I was hooked after the first couple pages and this is a story with no lags and a lot of on the edge of my seat moments.

Cool read and I definitely recommend it.
